JRH Brewing started as most breweries do, a home brewery with passion. I got interested in brewing as a high school student during a field trip to Busch Gardens. While other students were studying the physics of the roller coasters, I was engaging in the magic of the brewery tour. I brewed my first batch of beer in college and to say the least, I didn’t see a future in brewing, so I pursued a career in medicine. I worked as a Physician Assistant, PA, for the next several years and realized something was missing from my life, BREWING! I started home brewing again in 2009, and the rekindling of a hobby quickly turned into a passion. A series of life-changing events forced me to realize that I needed to pursue my dream of opening a brewery. Along with my wife, Jill, we set out to make this dream a reality. “Life is short, don’t wait for the things you want to do”, this became our motto. I started brewing more often, reading more books, and honing my craft. We started taking “beercations” hitting every craft brewery we came across and taking notes of how we wanted JRH Brewing to be portrayed. I graduated from the American Brewers Guild in 2013 with more knowledge and enthusiasm to brew great craft beer.
JRH Brewing is now open at 458 West Walnut Street in Johnson City, TN. The brewery is more than just a great place for craft beer; it is a place to inspire others to follow their own dreams and celebrate their accomplishments no matter how big or small. Look forward to seeing you there!
Johnson City Brewing Co. 21 Minutes (15.6 miles)
Johnson City Brewing Company (JCBC) was founded in March 2014 by a group of home brewers and craft beer enthusiasts. We celebrated our grand opening on Saturday, October 25th, 2014.
Our regular Tap Room Hours are Wednesdays 5pm-9pm, Thursdays 5pm-9pm, Fridays 5pm-10pm, Saturdays 1pm-10pm, and Sundays 1pm-7pm.
The core of this group first got together in 2009, when Eric and Kat Latham formed the Peyton Street Beer Club. Eric and Kat would invite friends, family, and even strangers over to taste home brew and craft beer from around the world. Great conversations ensued (as they usually do after a couple of brews), and there was always a story behind every beer.
When the Lathams moved to Johnson City, Tennessee in 2011, they began looking for a good place to set up a brewery. Finally, in 2014, the stars aligned and Johnson City Brewing Company was born.
Johnson City Brewing Company is located in historic downtown Johnson City, Tennessee, which is surrounded by the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Come by for a visit!
